X-Men: What’s old is new again

Two X-Men posts in one day?

The most interesting thing about the new X-Men series launching this week is not the vampires (sorry) but the use of the original logo from the team’s debut in 1963 (minus the shading)!

Funny enough, there are something like 138 different variant covers available for this new 2010 title, and yet I couldn’t find one that was an homage to that first issue.

Also, didn’t the whole variant cover thing when away when the industry imploded in the 9os? Maybe not. Here’s a list of what retailers are offering this week (doesn’t include the future printing variants…):

X-MEN #1
X-MEN #1 BLANK COVER VAR

X-MEN #1 COIPEL VAR

X-MEN #1 DJURDJEVIC VAR
X-MEN #1 JRJR VAR
X-MEN #1 MEDINA VAR
X-MEN #1 PARTY EXCLUSIVE MEDINA GATEFOLD VAR
They’ve come a long way since the near cancellation of the series in the late 60s/early 70s.
